Junior Race Training

Summer Race Training

Dates: Tuesday 27th August 2024 – Friday 30th August

Session Times: 09:30 – 16:30

4 days of Race Training – lots of on-the-water activities to develop your racing skills.

Sailors should have achieved Stage 3 or better (or an equivalent standard) to be considered for this week.

Parents are expected to attend registration with their child at the start of each day and be present at the end of day, unless alternative arrangements are agreed with the organisers.

Parents are not required to stay throughout the day, however they are expected to provide a number on which they can be contacted, and if required, can attend the club within a reasonable time to take responsibility for their child.

Parents who are available during the day are welcome to stay, and volunteer to assist with the week if they wish.

The Club implements the RYA Racing Charter and all participants will be expected to behave in compliance with it.

Sailors will need to bring:

  • Sailing gear: wetsuit, buoyancy aid, suitable grippy footwear (wet suit boots/shoes or trainers), spray top
  • Sun protection (hat and suncream)
  • Lunch , Water bottle, snacks
  • RYA Log book
  • Notebook and pen

Thursday Evening Junior Racing/Coaching 2024

Dates: Thursday April 18th 2024 – Thursday 25th July (Excluding Half Term Thursday 30th May)

Session Time: 18:00 – 21:00

  • Should be rigged and attend briefing at 18:20
  • 2 Races in Estuary
  • First Start 19:00
  • Committee Boat Start
  • Debriefing follows racing at 20:45

Entry is now open. The form must be completed by a parent or guardian of the junior sailor, and allows you to appoint additional Responsible Adults and asks for your preferred crew / helm partnership and the boat you prefer to race. You are encouraged to sign up promptly as spaces will be limited to ensure adequate coverage with the available RIBs..

One Entry Form is needed for each sailor (helm or crew) to enrol in the whole Thursday evening series.

Please Volunteer. These events are only made possible by the work of parent volunteers. To be available as a volunteer, we need you to update your My profile, under My Information (on the far right of the navigation bar), scroll down to Preferences and under the Volunteering heading, click on Junior Racing Volunteer. If you have a PB2 (or other RIB) qualification, please click on ‘My Qualifications’ on the Members Area and enter the details.

Winter Race Training 2023/2024

Winter coaching for Junior Racing, 5 full days of focus on racing skills and knowledge once a month led by Corky Rhodes.

Open to club junior members. As a minimum, sailors should have achieved RYA Stage 3 or better (or an equivalent standard).

Dates: Saturday November 18th, Sunday December 10th, Saturday January 6th, Sunday February 18th and Sunday March 17th.

Cost: £110 per sailor for all 5 sessions: £35 per session; book in advance;
